Flight to Paradise

The biggest challenge of going on a twenty-two and a half hour flight with a six-year old was of course, keeping the same six-year old entertained until the plane landed at the other end. Still, even as Rhodey found himself playing what felt like the hundredth round of Go Fish, he is glad they made the decision easily to bring Morgan with them on their honeymoon in Indonesia.

When Morgan runs out of cards on this current game, Pepper is quick to intervene with, "Okay sweetie, why don't you color or draw for awhile, and let Mommy and Daddy have a little time together?"

"Okay, Mommy!" Morgan agrees as he gets up and runs over to the other side of the lounge area.

They watch the little boy for a moment before Rhodey turned to his wife and murmured, "Thank you! Go Fish is a good game but we've played so many rounds I've lost count. I'll tell you one thing: that little boy really loves playing Go Fish!" 

Pepper laughed, "Yes, yes, he does, and I thank you so much for playing with him! Good news, we're a little over half way to Indonesia."

"That's good because I don't know how much longer I can play Go Fish without losing my mind!"

They both laughed again, and then Rhodey moved to sit by his wife. He wrapped his arm around her, she laid her head on his shoulder, and together they both looked over at Morgan.

"There are still times I still can't believe how much he looks like Tony," Rhodey said quietly.Morgan was busy coloring, his complete attention on what he was doing. "He's even got his tongue out like Tony used to do when he was completely absorbed in what he was doing."

Pepper blinked away tears, picturing in her head what he was talking about. She remembered clearly seeing the same look and tongue thing with Tony, "Yeah, he does."

Morgan threw his crayon down, picked up his art, and run over to them, "Mommy, Daddy, look what I did! Look at what I did!"

"What a day!" Pepper said as she sat down on the sofa.

"Yeah, what a day!" Eva agreed as she closed the suite door behind them, then joined her mother. "I'm tired, and we still gotta pack!"

Nodding, Pepper hauled herself up and held out her hand, "Why don't we go get that done now, kiddo, so we can relax and enjoy our last night here in Kyoto?"

Eva sighed, then grabbed her mother's hand, standing up beside her. They went over to their bedroom doors and parted, each going to pack in their own rooms.

As she went into her room, Pepper thought about the past week she'd spent with her daughter. They'd been in Japan for seven days, and tomorrow they'd fly home. She smiled as she thought about all the things they'd done together in the past week, but she especially thought about today.

On their last day here, Pepper had had no meetings, and so she'd asked Eva what she's wanted to do. At first Eva hesitated, then said, "You know how we've been seeing the geishas all over the place here, Mom?"

"Mmmhmm."

"Well, I think it'd be fun to dress up like one for a day. I mean they wear such pretty kimonos, and their makeup and hair are so intricate..."

As she said this, Pepper didn't miss how much she looked like Tony when he's running an idea by her he's not sure she'll like. She eased the fourteen-year-old's anxiousness. "So do I, sweetheart. So do you know how we can dress up like geishas for a day?" 

The smile on Eva's face had been so big as she squealed and hugged her mother. "Yeah, the concierge said she could make all the arrangements for us! She knows the best place where they'll dress us up like geishas, and even teach us to do some of the stuff they do! Oh, Mom!"

"Ready, Mom?"

Pepper looked at Eva, taking in the beautiful blue kimono Eva was wearing, and she thought of how this was the best trip she has ever had to Japan.

"I will always be grateful for my parents," Eva said, looking up at the stars with Loki by her side. "They may not come straight from Norse mythology like you and everyone else here on Asgard, but they've taught me so much about strength and love."

Loki smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, "Your parents are impressive mortals," he said. "They've accomplished much in their time. They have my respect, and not just because they gave you to me, minkjære. It is because they are formidable warriors in every aspect of life."

Eva nodded in agreement, "And they've always been there for me, and my brother even when things were tough. They always believed in us, no matter what."

Loki leaned in and kissed her forehead, "And I believe in you too, minkjære. You are one of the most extraordinary beings I have ever met."

Eva blushed, feeling warm and content in his embrace. She had never imagined that her life would turn out this way. She had grown up on Earth, the daughter of Tony and Pepper Stark, and had never even imagined the existence of Norse gods and other worlds.

But then she had met Loki, and everything had changed. He had shown her a world beyond her wildest dreams, a world filled with magic and wonder.

And she had fallen in love with him, despite all his past mistakes and flaws. She knew that he was the one for her, and she would always stand by him, no matter what came their way.

As they sat together under the stars, Eva felt such a feeling of contentment. She had everything she could ever want: a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a family who had her back. And she knew that as long as she had Loki by her side, she could face anything that came her way. Together, they were unstoppable.

Regrets and Finding Peace

I will always remember Jennifer's smile, her kindness, and her unwavering dedication to our cause. She was more than just a soldier; she was a friend, a confidante, and, to me, something more. Jennifer had captured my heart, and even though she is gone, my love for her remains just as strong.

I closed, and locked the old-fashioned journal someone had given me. After the destruction of our base, we had come to the Passages to regroup, heal, and begin the process of finding another base.

Hawk had noticed my pensive mood, and he sat with me in the barracks, offering a sympathetic ear, "What's on your mind, Jon?" he asked.

"Only how one of my biggest regrets of my life is always going to be how I waited until it was too late to tell Jennifer how I felt about her," I admitted, my voice thick with emotion, "By the time I had the courage to tell her, it was too later. I thought I had all the time in the world to tell her, but I was wrong."

Matt nodded understandingly, "I will always remember that it's never too late to tell someone how you feel, Jon. I know Jennifer's gone, but your love for her lives on. And who knows? Maybe she knew how you felt all along."

I gave him a hopeful look, startled by the possibility. "Do you really think so?"

My father's oldest and truest friend gave me a small smile. "I will always have believed that love has a way of finding a way, even in the most darkest of circumstances, and we're living in the darkest of circumstances mankind has ever known. We both know that Jennifer was a perceptive and an inquisitive woman. There's more than a very good chance she knew you felt without you having to say it."

I sat there, considering his words. "I will always remember how much I loved her, Hawk. But what am I supposed to do now? How am I supposed to move on?"

Hawk put a hand on my shoulder. "You know I will always be here for you, Jon. We all will. And I know that Jennifer would want you to keep fighting. She would want you to carry on her legacy by never stopping until this war has been won."

I nodded, feeling a sense of renewed purpose wash over me, "You're right, Hawk. I will always remember Jennifer's courage and determination. She would want us to keep fighting, no matter what."

He smiled at me, his eyes filled with understanding, "And we will always be here for you, Jon. As a team, as friends, and as family."

As he finished speaking, I could hear Scout and Tank's voices as they entered our section of the barracks. They joined us, and together we talked about our missing teammate, and friend. I knew I would never forget what I felt for her, but neither will any of these three men who crying, laughing, and talking about her.

I... we will always remember Jennifer Chase.

We will always remember Pilot.

Coming Through a Storm

"I will always remember the day that could've changed my life forever," Dr. Gillian Foster thought as she sat on the witness stand. She had spent years as a deception specialist for The Lightman Group, using her expertise in reading body language and microexpressions to help solve some of the most challenging cases. But this case was different. This time, she was the one on trial.

Gillian had been accused of tampering with evidence in a high-profile case, and the prosecution was using every trick in the book to try to prove their case. The pressure was intense, and Gillian felt like everything she had worked for was on the line.

As she sat on the witness stand, Gillian felt a wave of panic wash over her. She had always prided herself on her ability to read people, but now she was the one being scrutinized. She tried to keep her cool, but she could feel her hands shaking and her heart racing.

Then her eyes met those of Cal. He was sitting in the back of the courtroom. He knew how to read her better than anyone else in her life, her ex-husband included. He had always been her mentor and friend, and the small nod along with smile he gave her that said "You've got this." gave her a sense of calm. She knew that he believed in her, which bolstered her belief in herself and that was all she needed to find the strength to continue.

Over the next few hours, Gillian answered questions, explained her methods, and defended herself against the accusations of wrongdoing. It was one of the most grueling experiences of her life, but she refused to back down. She knew that she had done nothing wrong, and she was determined to prove it.

After short deliberations, the jury came back with a Not guilty verdict.  Gillian couldn't help the relief that washed over her when she was vindicated. After the verdict, the judge told her all charges were dismissed against her, and she adjourned the court.

Cal was waiting for her when she walked out of the courtroom. As she joined him, and they started to walk out of the courthouse together, she said, "Thank you... for being there every day during this whole ordeal."

He smiled again, a real smile, and said, "Nothing you wouldn't or haven't done for me in the past, love."

"I will always be grateful to you," she said, tears in her eyes. "You gave me the strength to get through this."

"Still, I don't know how I would have gotten through it without you there."

"No problem, love. Now, what do you say to us heading back to the office, and getting the dreadful surprise party that Loker and Torres felt the need to organize."

"Surprise party?"

"Yeah, surprise. Or rather it was supposed to be. Do me a favor and act surprised when we get there?"

Gillian smirked, "You want me to act surprised in a roomful of human lie detectors?" 

Cal shrugged, "On second thought. Go ahead and tell the truth. It'll drive them crazy."
