Loki had been imprisoned on Asgard for his past crimes when he first met Eva Stark. She and her older brother, Ethan, were sent to Asgard for their safety while their mother, Pepper Potts, worked with the Avengers to clear their father Tony Stark of capital murder charges.

Although Eva was only four years old at the time, had defied every attempt Odin's guards had made to keep her out of the prison where she would visit the trickster. In turn, Loki, in turn, found relief from the loneliness his imprisonment had wrought. Eventually the visits stopped when Eva was able to return to Earth after her father had been cleared.

Years would go by after their departure before Loki was given his freedom from his imprisonment after he helped to save Asgard from a powerful enemy. At first his freedom was heavily condition, and limited as he had to remain Asgard at all times, but then he gained back enough trust to be granted the right to visit Midgard.

He had immediately sought out to renew his friendship with Eva, who by that time was a young woman by Earth's standards. He'd never intended to fall in love with her though, or her him, but fall in love they did, and during Eva's twenty-third year of life, they had wed. Afterwards, they had decided to live on Asgard since many people would never forgive Loki for what'd happen in New York.

One of the aspects of his wife's appearance that fascinated Loki about Eva's appearance, particularly were freckles. He found them to be endearing and charming, and he loved how they accentuated her natural beauty. One evening, as they sat on the front porch of their small house on Asgard, Loki reached out to gently touch one of Eva's freckles. "Do you know one of the things that I love most about you?" he asked, a soft smile playing at the corners of his lips.

Eva looked up at him, her eyes shining with curiosity. "What's that?" she asked.

"It's your freckles," Loki said, tracing his finger over her cheek. "They're like stars scattered across your skin, each one unique and beautiful in its own way."

Eva blushed at his words, feeling a warmth spread throughout her body. "Thank you," she said softly.

Later that night while they were lying in bed, Loki traced the freckles on Eva's face with his finger, and began to tell her stories about each one, how he imagined them as tiny constellations, each with its own unique tale to tell.

At some point in her life, Eva had found herself self-conscious about her looks, as all teenagers usually do at some point in their lives. She'd especially been so about her freckles, even hating them, and wishing she could get rid of them. So hearing now !!in turn, loved how Loki loved them made her so glad that she hadn't been able to do away with like she had once wanted to do. His love and acceptance made her feel beautiful, inside and out.

Loki and Eva Stark had been married for a few years now, and they had settled into a comfortable routine. Eva was the daughter of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, while in the past Loki had been a trickster who loved causing chaos and mischief wherever he had gone. But he had reformed his ways many year*s ago — first to win his freedom from prison, then so that he would be worthy of marrying Eva. Her father had been very reluctant to bless their union together because of Loki's past record. But her father finally had consented to their marriage, and after so many years of them being happy together even he had to admit that Loki was a good, loving husband to his daughter Eva.

One quiet day, Eva decided to take a walk by the lake near their home. Loki had joined her, and they strolled along the shore hand in hand. The sun was shining, the sky was clear and the water sparkled.

As they walked, they came across a small calf. Eva carefully approached the baby, and placed her hand on its side. The calf mooed at her. "Oh you poor dear! Where's your mother? Hmm?" She looked at her husband, "This little poor thing! He looks so weak Oh Loki, we've got to help him!"

Loki nodded, "Yes, we must try to help it."

"Let's see if we can find some milk for it," Eva said.

"All right."

"We can't leave him here though while we look. I mean what if he gets lost so not even we can find him? He'll die!"

"I think he is too weak to walk on his own. I will have to carry him."

"Can you?"

"Certainly," Loki replied.

As Eva watched, he picked up the calf and placed the calf over his shoulders, with the front legs on one side, and his back legs on the other.

"This calf is indeed in sad shape as he barely feels like he's there," Loki proclaimed.

The calf mooed again.

"Hang in there, buddy!" Eva said, petting the calf's head, "Come on, we need to hurry and get him some help!"

When they decided to live on Asgard, they decided that they didn't want to live in the city. Loki had been and was still considered to be a prince of Asgard, but neither one of them wanted to subject Loki to the temptations of power that came along with such a position. So with Odin's approval, a modest but roomy stone cottage was built for him in one of the forests outside of the city. They were isolated, and yet they were not because while they did have neighbors, their neighbors were not too close.

A fact Loki was very well aware of now as he carried the sickly calf upon his shoulders. They'd walked at least a mile before they saw the smoke of a hearth fire. They hailed the home's inhabitants, and were quite relieved that a farmer and his wife lived there.

The farmer took the calf from Loki and said, "We'll have him fed in no time! I've got plenty of cows who are in the mothering way! I am certain I can get one of them to share her milk with this one here."

"Oh thank you, sir!" Eva said, as she sipped on the cold water the farmer's wife had offered them.

"Yes thank you, sir, for going to all the trouble," Loki added.

"Oh, it's no trouble. None at all. It will soon be twilight, then dark. Where do you live?"

"On the other side of the lake, I think."

"Oh dear, then you'll never get home before dark even if you start walking home now! Why don't you sup with us and spend the night here?" the wife said.

Eva looked at her husband then, "If you're sure it's no trouble?"

The farmer laughed, "Oh no, dear Lady, having you here with us for the night would be no more trouble than us taking care of this sick calf! But I'm afraid we'll have to put you up to sleep for the night in the barn!"

"Sounds charming!" Loki said, dryly.

Eva elbowed him, and told the farmer, "Why we'll be glad to stay the night in your barn."

"Well now that's settled, why don't we all go in for dinner?" the wife said, leading the way into their house.

Loki had always been a trickster, causing chaos and mischief wherever he went. But after he fell in love with Eva Stark, he changed his ways and became a more reliable and loving partner. They were married and had a daughter named Sigyn.

Tragically, Eva died during childbirth, leaving Loki to raise Sigyn on his own. He was heartbroken and struggled to cope with his grief, but he knew that he had to be strong for his daughter.

One day, Sigyn came to Loki with a curious expression on her face.

"Father, can we go to the river today?" she asked.

"Did you milk the goats?" he asked as milking their goats was one of her daily chores.

"Yes, Father, I milked the goats. So can we go?"

Loki was hesitant. He had never taken Sigyn to the river before and was unsure if it was safe for her.

"Why do you want to go there, my little snowflake?" he asked.

"I heard that there are fish in the river, and I want to see them," Sigyn said.

Loki thought for a moment before agreeing. He knew that he had to start letting Sigyn explore the world on her own.

As they arrived at the river, Sigyn ran towards the water with excitement.

"Slow down and have care, Sigyn!" Loki called out, worried she may slip on any ground that might be wet.

She did as her father requested, and approached the river more slowly. Once she reached its banks, she looked down into the river and saw the fish swimming around.

"Father, can we catch some fish?" she asked.

Loki was a little hesitant. He had not gone fishing since he was a boy, but he knew it was an excellent opportunity to bond with his daughter. They found a nearby tree branch that was long enough, and Loki was able to fashion it into a makeshift fishing pole. Along with it and some worms they dug up for bait, Loki taught Sigyn how to cast the line and wait patiently for a fish to bite.

After a few minutes, Sigyn caught a fish. She was so excited and couldn't stop being proud of herself. Father and daughter continued fishing for a while, taking turns with the makeshift pole. Loki caught one or two, but Sigyn caught several more fish. They kept three to have for dinner that evening and allowed the rest of the fish to swim away.

As they started back home, Sigyn sang all the way home, flitting here or there, playing. Loki smiled as he watched his daughter, so very proud of her.

Loki felt a pang in his heart as he realized that she was growing up so fast and that he had to cherish every moment he had with her. Soon before he knew it, she would be a young woman with a husband and perhaps a young daughter of her own. The thought made him sad and joyful all at once because he knew she would grow up to be just as much of an amazing woman as her mother had been.

Oh my dear Eva, if only you can see our daughter. She's truly the greatest wonder I've ever had in my life.

"Father?" Sigyn's voice suddenly broke through his thoughts.

"Yes, my snowflake?"

"Are you okay? You look sad."

He put on a smile, "I'm fine, my dear."

"About Mama?" she asked.

Loki wanted to deny it, but he could not, "Yes, I was thinking about your Mother, and how very proud of you she would be. Just as I am."

The girl blushed, "Oh."

They walked in silence for a few steps, then suddenly grinned mischievously at his daughter, "Come, daughter, let's race the rest of the way home. Last one there is a rotten bilgesnipe!"

Loki and Sigyn loved spending time together in the garden. They would tend to the flowers and vegetables, chatting and laughing as they worked.

One day, they decided to begin planting some new seeds. They carefully dug holes in the soil and placed the seeds inside then they covered them with dirt. Once they were all covered, they watered the soil by Loki carrying a pail of water while Sigyn used a dipper to give the seeds a cool drink.

After they finished this, they decided to eat their lunch. They had brought some food with them out into the garden, and they had a picnic. Sigyn looked around as they ate, admiring their work. Her eyes went all over the garden, and stopped when she saw that one of the flowers was starting to wilt. She got up to rush over to it, worried that it might die.

"Father, what's wrong with this flower?" she asked, pointing to it.

Loki got up and went over to examine the flower, quickly noting that the soil around it was dry. "I think this flower is only thirsty. It needs more water."

Sigyn ran over to pick up the water pail, much lighter after all the watering they'd done already, and she returned to give the flower a cool dipper. She watched as the water slowly seeped into the soil, nourishing the roots of the plant.

Loki watched and smiled as his daughter worked, proud of her determination and compassion. When she was finished, he laid a hand on her back, "You're a natural at gardening, Sigyn. It takes patience and care to grow something beautiful."

Sigyn beamed with pride, grateful for her father's encouragement. They spent the rest of the afternoon tending to the garden, watering the plants and pulling out any weeds that may have sprouted up.

As the sun began to set, they sat down on a bench and admired the garden in the soft evening light. Sigyn snuggled up next to her father, feeling happy and content.

"Father, can we have some milk and cake?" she asked.

Loki chuckled, ruffling her hair. "Of course, my snowflake. Let's go inside and I'll cut us some cake while you pour us some cold milk."

"Thank you, Father," Sigyn said he set the cake in front of her. She then took a sip of the milk, feeling refreshed and happy. "Father, should I thank our goats for how delicious the milk we drink is?"

Loki smiled, pleases with her kind idea and thoughts for the creatures. "I do not see why not. However might I suggest that you take them a little treat to give to them along with your words?"

"That's a good idea, Father!" she exclaimed, "What shall I take them?"

Eva Stark had been working as a barista in her small hometown coffee shop for years. She loved her job and the customers that came through her doors. But there was one particular customer that always caught her eye: Loki, the famous author who always ordered the same thing - a cup of black coffee without any added bells or whistles.

Eva had always admired Loki from afar, watching as he scribbled away in his notebook while sipping his coffee. One day, Loki finally caught her eye and gave her a smile. From that moment on, they began to exchange small talk every time he came in for his coffee.

As the days went by, Eva started to realize that Loki was not only charming, but he was also incredibly intelligent and kind-hearted. When there was a lull in other customers present in the cafe, Loki would often start a conversation with her. They would chat about everything from literature to music, and Eva found herself looking forward to seeing him every day. Then one day, a turn of events led to something completely unexpected that would change her life from that moment on.

Loki had come into the cafe and had ordered his usual cup of black coffee. Eva had made it, and when she went to hand it to him, she asked, "Are you sure you don't want to try something different this time than just plain black coffee? Something like a Macchiato maybe? I could make you one up with no problem if you want?"

He gave her a smile and took the black coffee from her instead, "No, thank you. This is fine the way it is. I appreciate you offering though." With that, he went to sit down at his usual table in the corner, and got down to work.

Eva returned to her own work as a flood of coffee and tea lovers started drizzling into the cafe. She was busy for almost an hour before there was another lull in business. When the last to-go order had gone, Eva looked over in Loki's direction and was happy to see he was still at his table... on the phone! He was not scribbling away in his notebook as was his habit when he came in her.

Eva tried not to stare at him, but she could not fail to notice he looked unhappy, perhaps upset the further along his phone conversation went. Finally she heard him say, "No no, Sofia, don't worry about it. You're sick and you can't make it. It's as simple as that. I'll ask someone else. It's fine."

His tone of voice suggested to whomever he was talking to he really was fine without whatever had just been canceled. However, it was clear to Eva by the look on his face, it wasn't as fine as he was making it sound. Since no one else was in the cafe except for Joe who was in the back cooking a fresh batch of pastries, Eva made a decision. She locked the register, grabbed a rag, and went over to start wiping the table closest to his.

She wiped the table for a moment, working up her courage to finally ask her question, "Is everything okay?" She cringed inwardly at how nervous she sounded instead of casual. She hoped that he would not notice.

Loki didn't respond for a moment, and when he did he sounded distracted, "Hmm? What? I'm sorry, Eva, but I didn't hear your question."

"I asked if everything's okay?" Eva repeated.

"Yes, it is... well if you count your dinner date canceling on you at the last possible moment, and you know you'll never be able to find anyone else in time to fill in for her," he answered, then he shrugged, "Well, I suppose I will just have to go on my own."

As she continued to wipe the same table more than it really needed to be wiped, Eva felt a thread of disappointment curling in her stomach, which was followed by embarrassment at herself. Stop it, Eva! Throw a bucket of cold water on whatever this is, girl! He's just someone who comes into the place you work in for coffee and a quiet place to write! He's not interested in you beyond your capacity to serve him his ordered drink! With that last thought, she stopped wiping the table within an inch of its life, and started towards the counter.

The next few minutes seemed to last forever as there were no new customers coming into the cafe, and Loki was sitting there in his corner all still, looking down at the table in front of him. The situation was made worse by the fact she had nothing to do at the moment other than just stand there.

She didn't want to stare at him, yet she found herself looking in his direction until finally he looked up at her. When their eyes met, she quickly looked away, embarrassed he'd caught her staring at him. Her embarrassment grew when she heard his chair scrape against the floor. She turned around, and started to wipe down part of the counter, facing away from his direction. There was the sound of a voice clearing followed by the sound of his voice speaking her name!

"Eva, I pray you will forget I said anything if what I am about to say will make things awkward between us from the moment forward as I value your friendship more than..."

Wait? He values my friendship?

Eva felt a thrill at the words in which he told her that he considers her a friend. Then realizing he was still speaking, she made herself listen to what he was saying.

"... with me as my guest?"

She flushed with embarrassment again as she realized that she hadn't heard most of what he'd said to her, and now it was her turn to be awkward. She took a deep breath, and said, "I'm sorry... I didn't hear what you were saying. Could you please repeat it?"

Loki smiled and gestured, "You know what? Please forget I said anything, because it was out of line. After all, you don't really know me well enough for this sort of thing. I should be going. Thank you for the coffee, Eva." He turned around, walked back to his table, and started stowing his writing materials.

I probably should just let him go, she thought. But do I really want him to leave here thinking he's done something wrong? The answer to that question was no, and so she walked over to his table. "What was it you asked me?"

He didn't pause in his packing, "Oh, it was nothing. I was just being absurd is all." He put the strap of his messenger bag on one shoulder, picked up his coffee, and was about to leave when Eva stepped in his path.

Looking him in the eye, she said, "Please, tell me what you said. I'd really like to know."

Now he became flustered, "Well I... I asked if you would do me the honor of attending tonight's dinner."

"Go with you to the dinner?" Eva repeated.

He nodded, "Yes... but as my friend, not as my date"

Eva stared at him, still not believing that famous author Loki Laufeyson had asked her out on a date with him! No, not a date! Just to dinner as a friend!

"Blast! Why didn't I just go alone instead of asking like an idiot? Listen Eva, I am sorry! I hope I have not ruined our friendship!" he said, sidestepping her, and fleeing towards the door.

Maybe it was not a good idea to go out with him even as a friend, but before she could stop herself, Eva blurted out after him, "I'll go!"

Loki stopped in his tracks, and turned around to look at her, "You'll go?"

"Yes, I will go with you to your publisher's dinner as your guest!"

He did not speak for a moment, then he said, "Oh thank you, Eva! I do so hate going to one of these events without someone!"

"Well, now you won't have to because I'll be going with you."

"Yes, again thank you!" he said, then looked at his watch, "Oh, I must be going now. there are some things that I need to do before tonight's dinner!"

"Wait! We haven't talked about how we are going to meet up for tonight! Do you want my information or do you want to meet me up somewhere and either I drive or you drive us to the dinner?"

"Why don't we meet here the cafe, say 7:30, and I'll drive is to the dinner?" he said.

"Okay here at 7:30," she agreed.

Loki started to leave once more, and she stopped him again, "Sorry one more question: How dressed up for this dinner do I need to be?"

"An evening dress should be fine. Anything else?"

Eva shook her head, "No, no, that's all. I guess I'll see you tonight then."

"See you then." With that, he was gone.

Eva walked over to the window, and watched him get in his car, then drive off. She turned around to get back to work, and as she walked back to the counter, she muttered, "Well here's hoping I can still get into my prom dress!"

Eva Stark was a renowned 4-star chef, known for her culinary skills and innovative dishes. She was happiest when she was in the kitchen, and she had a passion for cooking that was evident in every dish she created. However, her biggest rival, Loki Laufeyson, was equally talented and always seemed to be one step ahead of her.

Eva and Loki had competed against each other in various culinary competitions, and their rivalry was legendary in the industry. Despite their professional competition, and although they would never admit it to another living soul — they secretly admired each other's skills and talent.

"Oh my gosh!" Eva's sous chef, Darcy, exclaimed one day.

Eva glanced up at her from the carrots she was chopping up, and asked, 'What is it?"

"Oh my gosh," Darcy repeated, walking towards her, "You got a letter from the Commander Chef challenge. They say in order to compete in the competition this year, you must agree to be paired off with another chef, of their choosing for the during of the competition."

"What?!!" Eva said, putting her knife down and wiping her hands, "Let me see that!"

Darcy handed her the letter, and waited for her reaction.

"Oh my gosh, they're totally serious!" Eva exclaimed, "And if I want to enter this, I am going to have to risk being paired off with someone impossible to work with!"

"Yeah, like Chef Loki Laufeyson!" Darcy said, rolling her eyes.

"No way! he powers that be would never pair me off with someone like him. Besides I doubt his high and mighty highness of the culinary world would enter something this. I think he thinks it's for no talents like me!" As she talked, she opened a bottle of water, and took a large drink.

Darcy rolled her eyes, "Oh my gosh, he's so full of himself!"

Eva laughed, "Yes, he is, but thankfully being so full of himself might just save me from having to work with him!" They both laughed at what she'd just said, and then she said, "Okay, time to get back to work. Dinner is not going to make itself!"

Over the next week and a half, Eva put the competition out of her mind, and concentrated on running her restaurant. The time passed by quickly, and soon one morning, she found herself standing in the venue where the contest would take place.

She had arrived in plenty of time to sign in and fill out any remaining paperwork that needed to be filled out. Afterwards the official said to her, "Okay, that does it. If you want, you can go to Room 123 just down the hall, and mingle with the other entrants until we're ready to officially start." Eva didn't know about the mingling part, and she must have looked hesitant because the woman added, "There are refreshments in the room."

"Oh okay, thank you. I guess I will go see what's available."

"Well, I know there's some coffee."

Eva gave her a nod, and started down the hallway towards Room 123. The way had been well marked, and soon she walked through the doorway, where every pair of eyes in the room fell on her as she entered, while her eyes fell on the very last person she had ever expected to see here.

Suppressing a groan and plastering on a smile, she walked over to the table along the wall to see what was available besides the coffee the way had mentioned. She was just about to select a few hors d'oeuvre when a certain someone's shadow fell across her. She knew he was about to make some sort of snarky remark so she decided she'd be the one to strike first.

"Oh, my my my! Look who it is, the overrated Chef Loki."

Loki gave her a condescending smirk then said, "Ha, that is so funny coming from the one whose dishes are always bland and uninspired."

"Which in turn makes that rich coming from the one who always relies on, or should I say one who overuses exotic spices to cover up the fact that his dishes lack flavor," Eva countered.

He gestured, "Well, you know I'd rather use spices than serve a dish that looks like it was made by a toddler."

"Pffft! At least my dishes are easy on the eyes, unlike yours that always look like a mess."

"Well, at least my dishes are memorable, unlike yours that are quickly forgotten no more than a single minute after they've been partaken from."

Eva heard a couple of the other chefs whistle, while a few made comments under their breath such as "Oooo I felt that!" and "Oooo it's getting hot in here cause she just got burned!"

But she wasn't going to let him or them put her down, "I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the judges think. But I have to say, it's always a pleasure beating you in these competitions. And believe me, Chef Laufeyson, my partner and I are going to beat you!"

Loki arched his eyebrow, "Don't get too confident, Eva. You might be in for a surprise this time."

Eva tilted her head back, her chin in the air when she countered, "Ha, I highly doubt it. But good luck, you'll need it."

"Likewise, Chef Eva. But I'm not worried, my cooking speaks for itself."

When they heard the sound of throat being cleared, all eyes turned to the doorway where the contest's officials stood with a mixture of emotions on their faces ranging from amusement to annoyance. The man with the most serious scowl on his face began, "If you two are quite down with your pre-competition lovefest, I will be happy to announce the theme of today's contest, and who will be partnered off with whom."

Feeling embarrassed by her behavior, she motioned for him to go ahead, as Loki muttered his approval too. The official nodded, and looked at the clipboard in front of him. "Today's contest will consist of two rounds, which are the elimination round, and the final round where the grand prize winners will be determined. You will each be split into teams of two for the first round. You must work together to prepare your assigned themed dish in the allotted time. A team without a dish to present to the judges when the clock reaches zero, will be automatically disqualified from entering Round 2. Does everyone understand so far?"

Everyone in the room nodded, and waited for him to continue.

"Your dishes will be judged on plating, the taste of your dish, and how well you executed your assigned theme. Everybody following still?"

Once more, everyone nodded, and the judge went on, "Okay, let me let everyone know who you'll be working with, and what your theme will be for Round 1."

Eva mentally and literally crossed her fingers, hoping that the universe wouldn't be so cruel to partner her off with—

"Chef Eva Stark?"

"Uh yes?"

"Chef Eva, your partner for the competition will beeeeeeee.... oh, your partner's Chef Loki Laufeyson, and the theme for your dish will be—"

"What?! You have got to be kidding!"

Eva and Loki are so happy in their new life together. One of things discovered they loved to do together early on in their relationship was to cook. Eva loved trying new recipes and experimenting with different ingredients, while Loki was always eager to learn new techniques in the kitchen since cooking was not a skill he was taught when he was growing up on Asgard. At the same time, it was also a learning curve for Eva as she learned how to prepare food with the cooking methods they used on her new world.

Today, Eva decided to teach Loki how to cook one of her favorite dishes from Earth (or Midgard as they called her home on Asgard). She began by filling a pot with water and placing it over the fire to start to boil. "The first step in cooking this dish is to boil the pasta," she explained to Loki. "Once the water is boiling, we'll add the pasta and cook it until it's al dente."

"Oh, I do love it when you speak like that, minkjære," he murmured into her ear before he started kissing the nape of her neck.

Eva closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying her husband's kisses then said, "Loki!"

"Yes, minkjære?"

"Loki, we shall never get dinner prepared if you don't stop doing that!"

"Would that be so terrible, minkjære?"

"Loki!" she said again, getting flustered.

He gave her a mischievous smile, and gestured towards the unprepared food, "Go on, minkjære. I will try to pay attention."

Eva added the pasta to the water when it boiled, much aware of her husband's watchful gaze on her. She had actually made pasta before, just bot this dish, so she didn't feel the need to explain stirring the pot to keep the pasta from sticking. She put him on keeping the pasta clump free stirring duty while she started making the sauce.

She chopped up some garlic and onions and sautéed them in a pan with some olive oil. Then she added some diced tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper, and let the sauce simmer on low heat.

"Next, we'll cook some chicken to jazz up the sauce," Eva said, as she season the chicken. "This will give the dish some extra flavor and protein." She then cooked the chicken by browning it in a pan. "Gotta make sure the chicken is cooked all the way through so we won't get food poisoning."

Loki nodded and watched as Eva turned the chicken over in the pan. She let it go for a few minutes, and in the meantime, she reserved some water from the pot, then drained the rest of the pasta. The last step was to put the chicken in the sauce, and then let it simmer for a little while in the sauce.

Finally they were ready to eat, Eva hesitated in taking her first bite so she could watch her husband and see what his reaction was to the dish. "So uh... how is it?

While he chewed there was no expression or anything to give away what he thought of the food. Only after he swallowed his mouthful did Loki look at his wife, and gave her a huge grin. "It's wonderful, minkjære."

"Really?" she asked, taking a bite herself.

He nodded, "Yes!"

Eva thought the food tasted good but she wouldn't go as far as to call it wonderful. She would not call it wonderful even though it was one of her favorite Italian dishes and her grandmother's own recipe.

"Thank you for saying that, but please be honest. Do you really like it?"

Loki gave her a nod, "Yes, I do. This meal rivals those of those I've eaten in Odin's own halls!"

Upon hearing this, Eva dropped her fork, "You know if you don't really like it, you don't have to go on so about it being wonderful. I mean I understand food from Earth is different than what you grew up eating here on Asgard!"

"But it is wonderful!" he insisted.

She shook her head, "You're... exaggerating again! Really, if you don't like it, you don't have to eat it!" She stood up, grabbed her plate then his, "In fact, why don't I just go get us some of the bread and cheese we have here and we can have that instead!" She put their plate down with much force, and then with a huff, she exited through the front door of their home.

"Odin's beard," Loki muttered, staring after his wife, puzzled.

He did not move for a few seconds, he was so stunned by what just happened that he couldn't. He thought about all the years he had known Eva, and never once had she come close to having such a reaction with him.She had never lost her cool as the humans say with him so completely, and it was all over something so trivial! It was all because of misinterpretation!

Should he go after her, or give her some time to cool off? No, he finally decided, waiting was not the best option. He needed to find out what was bothering her, and make amends before any more time went by. So he got up, and stepped outside of their home, pausing to look around for her.

Eva was sitting on the bench underneath the trees, not doing anything but looking at the ground, and clutching her stomach. He started walking towards her, and stopped. Wait, she's clutching her stomach? Was something wrong with her? Was she ill? Was that the reason why she had acted the way she had? She wasn't feeling well.

Loki picked up his steps, and he seated himself beside her on the bench. He had not said a word when Eva wrapped her arms around him, and laid her head on his chest.

"I'm sorry," she muttered, still crying.

Wrapping his own arms around her, he kissed her hair, and told her, "There's no need to apologize, minkjære. I should not have went on so, although I do find the dish you have prepared to be very good, and truly unlike anything I've ever eaten on Asgard."

"Thank you," she said.

Neither of them speak for moments, just sitting together holding one another, enjoying the cool breeze fluttering through the trees. Finally, Loki could no longer take it, he broke the silence, asking her gently, "Eva, minkjære, what is troubling you? Is there something the matter?"

Eva did not speak for a moment, and then she blurted, "I think... I think I'm pregnant!"

It was Loki's turn not to speak for a moment, and then he said, "You think you're what, minkjære?"

She sat up, and looked at him, "I think I'm pregnant. You know as in with child, as in I think I'm carrying your child inside of me!"

"Yes, minkjære, I am familiar with the meaning of what pregnant means in this use of the word. But are you sure, minkjære?"

Eva nodded and looked away from him,"Y-y-yes, I've had some... signs."

Loki gently turned her face back towards him, "Oh minkjære, why has this realization upset you so? If you are carrying our child, I will go into the city, and shout it for everyone to hear that we are going to have a child!"

With a teary smile, she explained herself, "I'm upset... well not really upset because we've only been married a year, and I know we decided to wait at least three years before we'd try to have a baby. And now I've become pregnant when it's only been one year instead of three and—"

He silenced her with a gentle finger on her lips, "Minkjære, I know that we said we would wait three years before we would try to have a child together, but the truth is, I am ready any time to have a child with you. I agreed to the three years because of you."

"Because of me?"

"Yes, because of you. You told me that you were not really ready to be a mother, and while I am looking forward to being a father to our child, I would have gladly wait until you were ready."

"But?" she prompted.

Loki touched her stomach, "But minkjære, since you are perhaps already with child, I will not deny that I am excited and I'm already anticipating the arrival of our little one!"

"That's assuming that I am actually pregnant. I'm not 100 percent sure that I am. But I am having symptoms of being pregnant."

"Perhaps we should go into the city to see the healers to see if you are indeed pregnant."

Eva nodded, "I actually wanted to see a doctor on Earth for this, but I suppose travel by Bifrost might not be good for the baby."

"I do not know, minkjære. Perhaps it would be harmless, but all the same, I believe we should visit the healers here."

"Okay, let's go next week."

"Very well. Next week then."

The remainder of the week passed slowly for them both, but finally the new week came, and they traveled into the great city. They did not seek the services of one of the healers who served in Odin's court, but instead one who served the ordinary citizens of Asgard.

The healer, a woman Magnhild first asked Eva all sorts of questions about the symptoms she was experiencing before she examined her. At first she had insisted Loki leave them in private but stopped when Eva insisted that he stay.

He held his wife's hand as the healer performed her examination, and when she finished, he was the first to speak, "Well? Is she with child?"

They both held her breath as they waited for the woman to answer.

Magnhild looked at them both, and shook her head, "No, you are not with child."

"What? But what about all the symptoms I've been having?" Eva questioned, laying a hand on her stomach.

"I believe all of your symptoms, my Lady, have been caused by a false pregnancy."

"False pregnancy? Oh, you must be joking!" Loki said. "Is there truly such a thing?"

The healer nodded, "Aye, my Lord, there indeed is such a thing, and mayhap this happened for you, my Lady, is that you have a desire to have a child more than you realized."

"Mayhap," Eva muttered, her eyes filling with tears.

"I am sorry I was not able to you the news that you desired," Magnhild said sincerely.

"Thank you."

"Yes, thank you."

"Now I shall leave you to redress. You may speak to my apprentice to settle my fee. Good days to you both."

They had planned to go visit the Palace after seeing the healer and sharing the news, but after what Magnhild had told them, they elected to return home instead. As neither of them felt like preparing a meal, they ate bread, cheese, and some fruit.

"Would you like for me to prepare you a bath?" Loki asked. "Minkjære?"

"Hmm, what?" she asked, taking her eyes off of the fire.

"I asked if you would like for me to prepare you a bath?"

"No, no thank you. I think I want to just go to bed," Eva said, getting up.

"Very well, we'll both go to bed."

He followed her into their bedchamber, and helped her to undress by unfastening the back of her dress. Eva then pulled her nightdress over her head, and slipped into bed. Loki stripped down to his leggings, and then slipped in behind her.

"We'll have a child one day, minkjære. I promise you that we will."

"I know we will, I'm just a little sad because I'd actually begun to let myself get a little excited at the idea."

"I love you, minkjære. More than I have ever loved anyone in my entire life," Loki murmured as he began kissing her neck.

They were not going to have a child now, but Eva knew he would keep his promise to her, and for now she lost herself in the love she shared with her husband.

"I will always be grateful for my parents," Eva said, looking up at the stars with Loki by her side. "They may not come straight from Norse mythology like you and everyone else here on Asgard, but they've taught me so much about strength and love."

Loki smiled, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, "Your parents are impressive mortals," he said. "They've accomplished much in their time. They have my respect, and not just because they gave you to me, minkjære. It is because they are formidable warriors in every aspect of life."

Eva nodded in agreement, "And they've always been there for me, and my brother even when things were tough. They always believed in us, no matter what."

Loki leaned in and kissed her forehead, "And I believe in you too, minkjære. You are one of the most extraordinary beings I have ever met."

Eva blushed, feeling warm and content in his embrace. She had never imagined that her life would turn out this way. She had grown up on Earth, the daughter of Tony and Pepper Stark, and had never even imagined the existence of Norse gods and other worlds.

But then she had met Loki, and everything had changed. He had shown her a world beyond her wildest dreams, a world filled with magic and wonder.

And she had fallen in love with him, despite all his past mistakes and flaws. She knew that he was the one for her, and she would always stand by him, no matter what came their way.

As they sat together under the stars, Eva felt such a feeling of contentment. She had everything she could ever want: a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a family who had her back. And she knew that as long as she had Loki by her side, she could face anything that came her way. Together, they were unstoppable.
